August 7, 1937 – February 21, 2013

Morris Holt known on the circuit as Magic Slim was an American blues singer and guitarist born the son of sharecroppers in Torrance, MS. He tagged along with blues greats as Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf to Chicago to discover and create his own place in the Chicago blues scene.
Magic Slim initial choice of instrument was the piano. He picked up the guitar when he lost his pinky finger in a cotton gin accident. Talking about turning a tragedy into a success, Magic Slim should be a poster child of ‘never give up’.

Magic Slim died just days after Valentine’s Day, 2013, on February 21st but his spirit is still alive. Just after his death, in May 2013, he received a Blues Music Award in the ‘Traditional Blues Male Artist’ category, one of the many accomplishments during his musical career.
On this Pure Magic CD you can listen to his great life recordings – never heard before – which will illustrate what a sensational Blues Artist the genre lost. His legendary band, the Teardrops, of which Nick Holt (Slims brother), John Primer, and Earl Howell, were the seniors of the band, complimented Magic Slim sound with precision. If you want to listen to great down home Chicago Blues this is the CD for you!

Magic Slim passed away at the age of 75 from health complications.
